The second Eve Carson Memorial 5K for Education is this Saturday, November 21, 2009.

Pre-register online at www.educationforeve.com or all week in the Pit.  Registration is $15 before race day and $20 on race day.

Check-in will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday at Polk Place, and the race begins at 10 a.m.

Proceeds benefit the Eve Carson Memorial Scholarship Fund, First Book, and Frank Porter Graham Elementary School

Volunteers made almost 200 gift bags  and raised $400 for UNC Children’s Promise.

Greek Week 2010 Steering Committee

Applications for the position of director for the Greek Week 2010 Steering Committee are available at greeks.unc.edu.  You can apply as an individual, or as a co-director.

Are you self-motivated, cooperative and dedicated?  Do you want to get more involved within the Greek Community?  Then apply to be the Greek Week 2010 Steering Committee Director.  Applications are due by Friday, November 13, 2009 at 5 p.m.  

Also Look out for applications for committee member positions on the steering committee in late November.

Community Executive Council Application

Are you tired of the Greek community recieving bad press?  Then fill out an  application for the opportunity to represent the Greek community.  Gain leadership skills and build networking contacts.  Council members are responsible for promoting a positive and accurate Greek image.  

The Community Executive Council’s mission is to “serve as a means for collaboration and communication within the four governing councils and the University to build a more defined Fraternity and Sorority Community.”

Serve the UNC Greek community, and show others why being Greek is magnifique.  The deadline for application is Friday, December 4, 2009 at 5 p.m.

Phi Mu is having a benefit night at the Halloween and More store at South Point.  A percentage of all purchases made between 7 and 9 p.m. on October 20, will be donated to Phi Mu’s philanthropy, The Children’s Miracle Network.

Every autumn, the ladies of Chi Omega put on a pumpkin sale, and sell baked goods on the front lawn of the Chi O house to raise money for their philanthropy, the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  This year, they added carnival games, in hopes of attracting more Chapel Hill families.

The event took place today, October 18th, from 12-5 p.m.  Pumpkin Patch Customers could buy pumpkins and baked goods, get their face painted, paint their pumpkin, play games and sign up for raffles.

Proceeds from the Panhellinic Potluck dinner total $2,080, benefiting the Safe Ride Program.

The Greek Safe Ride Program is $2,080 closer to its $50,000 goal, thanks to the proceeds from the Potluck dinner!  Ladies from all sororities came to the Kappa Kappa Gamma house  October 8 to chow down, and support a great cause.

Plans to begin the Safe Ride Program are underway.  Panhellinic women are working to raise enough money to create an endowment to sustain the program in the future.  

The program will provide free cab rides for all members of UNC’s ten Panhellinic sororities, in hopes of creating a safer environment for Greek women.

Funding totals for the program are just less than $20,000 currently.  A $4 charge tacked onto every sorority’s member dues will also go toward the Safe Ride Program.

Students poured into the Union to donate blood.  In fact the turnout was so good, that all 80 bags REX Blood Services brought along with them were filled by the end of the day.  They even had to turn away some students because they had no more blood bags!

Looks like the week is off to a great start!
